Accustomed Torture?
[ 23:55 ]
I am not one for joyous occasions, be it parties or parades or *gasp* weddings. However, blessed *cough* with a large extended family, [ breeding like rabbits] it is inevitable that wedding invitations are showered upon us once in a blue moon. Which means it happens at least once a year.
Wedding dinners, in my opinion, are simply overrated. You do not really need to invite tables of people that you hardly really know to dinner and pretend to smile and nod when inside, you'll probably wondering who the heck is that, and is that his relative or mine? Wouldn't it be a huge faux pas when you accidentally stumbled upon that landmine?
Anyway, these dinners are a sham. They expect you to arrive promptly at 7, yet the first course is only served after 8. In between that time, boring elevator music is set on loop to irritate you. It also doesn't really help that you know barely a quarter of the people there. And none of them are really your age, or share common conversational topics.
Bored to tears, you sit, fidgeting impatiently, and when dinner is finally served, you find that the food is nothing exceptional, but merely the same old thing that is served in other wedding banquets. Palatable, yes, but boring.
In between the courses, the emcees must always appear on stage to 'honor' the happy couple. Ranging from bad pranks to recounting unfortunate mishaps, they seek to inject humor in an otherwise boring banquet. But seriously, to many, we frankly don't really care.
Weddings. Just not for me, I guess. >.>
