Benefits of pearl powder:
[1] It helps to close wounds. Betty swears by this cure. Apparently, when she was working, an earthquake struck the area, and she got injured, however, she could not stop to go to the hospital as the tourists were in need, they were frightened and needed food, drink and shelter. So, she practically lathered her wounds with pearl powder, bandaged her wounds with old clothes and dashed to find help for the Hong Kong tourists. The next day, when she went to the doctor, the doctor was surprised by how fast the wounds had closed. Hence, good cure as there first hand experience.
[2] It aids in bringing about sleep. If you're unable to sleep, mix a little powder into milk or fruit juice and drink it. It'll help. And it does, from my experience.
[3] It also helps to calm children down. Just place a little under the kid's tongue and let him swallow it slowly. It's apparently an old remedy because my grandmother used to apply it to her grandchildren. I didn't get the chance though... she had already passed away, but my brothers and older cousins had it before.
[4] It also helps to whiten your skin. Which I don't use it for, because the powder's pretty damn expensive to do using as some sort of a face mask.
After that, we visited an aquarium of unusual sea creatures. The place was originally a command centre or something for the late president, but was later converted to an aquarium. No photography was allowed in the aquarium as the people felt that some of the more timid creatures were afraid of the flash of cameras... hence, we could not take pictures. It's a waste because there were all sorts of animals, from weirdly colored fishes, to brightly polished shells and ancient looking fossils and weirdly shaped corals that looked like trees, people and objects.

And after that, it was to shopping, shopping, I say. We were at Kao Hsiung, where shopping is considerably much cheaper than in Taipei.
